چکیده

UNLABELLED The Bernese periacetabular osteotomy is commonly used to treat symptomatic acetabular dysplasia. Although periacetabular osteotomy is becoming a more common surgical intervention to relieve pain and improve function, the strength of clinical evidence to support this procedure for these goals is not well defined in the literature. We therefore performed a systematic review of the literature to define the level of evidence for periacetabular osteotomy, to determine deformity correction, clinical results, and to determine complications associated with the procedure. Thirteen studies met our inclusion criteria. Eleven studies were Level IV, one was Level III, and one was Level II. Radiographic deformity correction was consistent and improvement in hip function was noted in all studies. Most studies did not correlate radiographic and clinic outcomes. Clinical failures were commonly associated with moderate to severe preoperative osteoarthritis and conversion to THA was reported in 0% to 17% of cases. Major complications were noted in 6% to 37% of the procedures. These data indicate periacetabular osteotomy provides pain relief and improved hip function in most patients over short- to midterm followup. The current evidence is primarily Level IV. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level IV, therapeutic study. See Guidelines for Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence.

The prevalence of hip labral and chondral lesions identified by method of detection during periacetabular osteotomy: arthroscopy versus arthrotomy.

PURPOSE Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) has become an accepted treatment option for patients with severe hip dysplasia. In addition to correcting acetabular architecture, consideration has been given to concomitant joint evaluation and treatment of coexisting intra-articular pathologic conditions, which can be identified with hip arthroscopy or through an open arthrotomy. The purpose of this sys...

A Comparison of the Fixation Stability of the Osteotomy Fragment of the Bernese Periacetabular Osteotomy of Ganz with Tonnis' Modification of Steel's Triple Innominate Osteotomy

Introduction Periacetabular osteotomies are performed for improvement of femoral head coverage in a variety of clinical scenarios. A number of osteotomies are in clinical use today, and they differ in surgical technique, amount of coverage attainable, and biomechanical strength. The use of the triple innominate osteotomy in North America was popularized by Steel. In Tonnis' modification of the ...

Pseudoarthrosis of the ilium after periacetabular osteotomy that was treated by cemented total hip arthroplasty: a case report

BACKGROUND Preserving the hip joint to delay arthroplasty for patients with acetabular dysplasia-associated early-stage osteoarthritis has become more common, and several surgical procedures have demonstrated pain relief and improved hip joint function. Periacetabular osteotomy, one of the joint-preserving surgical procedures of the hip, provides favorable outcomes, although there are no report...

Periacetabular osteotomy and combined femoral head-neck junction osteochondroplasty: a minimum two-year follow-up cohort study.

BACKGROUND Proximal femoral deformities and overcorrection of the acetabulum both can result in secondary femoroacetabular impingement and suboptimal clinical results after periacetabular osteotomy. The purpose of the present study was to determine the rate of complications, the need for reoperations, radiographic correction, and hip function among patients who underwent periacetabular osteotom...
